Program Overview

The BA in Interior Architecture/Interior Design is a three-year, full-time program that combines artistic creativity with practical design solutions. It focuses on developing students’ abilities to shape interior spaces that are functional, sustainable, and emotionally engaging. The program is suited for individuals interested in the intersection of architecture, art, and human-centered design. Through hands-on studio projects and academic learning, students gain the tools to conceptualize and execute interior environments for residential, commercial, and public use.

Curriculum: The curriculum is studio-driven and project-based, allowing students to explore design solutions through both individual and group work. Core areas include interior design fundamentals, architectural drawing, digital visualization, materials and construction, sustainable design, lighting design, and history and theory of interior architecture. Each semester integrates design studios that simulate real-world challenges and foster creative thinking. The program also emphasizes the development of soft skills such as communication, collaboration, and presentation. In the final year, students complete a comprehensive Bachelor Thesis, combining research and design in a final interior architecture project.

Research Focus: Although practice-oriented, the program incorporates research-based learning to deepen students’ understanding of space, materiality, and user experience. Students engage in critical analysis and experimental design research, addressing topics such as adaptive reuse, environmental psychology, spatial narratives, and cultural context in interior design. The integration of theory and practice allows students to develop evidence-based design approaches and explore innovative spatial solutions.

Industry Engagement: Berlin International places strong emphasis on connecting students with the professional world. The program includes guest lectures by industry experts, company visits, collaborative design projects, and opportunities to participate in exhibitions and competitions.
