What happens after graduation if I don’t get a job?

That’s a great question, and it’s something many students and parents consider when planning to study abroad. Here’s how it generally works in popular study destinations:

---

UK (United Kingdom)
- After graduation, you can apply for a Post Study Work (PSW) visa (also known as the Graduate Route):
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree: Stay up to 18 months to look for work or gain experience.
- PhD/Doctoral degree: Stay up to 3 years.
- If you don’t find a job during this period, you’ll need to either:
- Switch to another eligible visa category (e.g., skilled worker if you find a qualifying job).
- Return to your home country at the end of your visa period.

---

Australia
- After completing your studies, you can apply for the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa:
- Length of stay depends on your qualification (typically 2–4 years for most courses).
- If you don’t secure a job or another visa by the end of this period, you’ll need to depart Australia when your visa expires.

---

Canada
- The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows you to work for a duration equivalent to your study period (up to 3 years).
- If you’re unable to secure a job or transition to permanent residency by the time your PGWP expires, you’ll need to return home or explore other visa options.

---

USA
- International students on an F-1 visa may be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT):
- 12 months for most degrees; up to 36 months for STEM fields.
- If you don’t find a job or secure an H-1B (work visa) or another visa, you’ll need to leave the USA after your OPT period ends.

---

New Zealand
- You can apply for a post-study work visa (duration depends on your qualification).
- If you don’t get a job offer or transition to another visa, you must leave New Zealand when your visa expires.

---

General Advice:
- Use your post-study work period to gain experience, build a professional network, and apply for jobs.
- Universities often offer career support services—make use of them!
- Stay updated with immigration policies, as they are subject to change.
