Can international students extend their stay in the UK after completing their degree?

Yes, international students can extend their stay in the UK after completing their degree through the Post Study Work (PSW) visa, officially known as the Graduate Route.

Here’s how it works:

1. Graduate Route (PSW Visa)

- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree: You can stay and work (or look for work) in the UK for up to 18 months after graduation.
- PhD or Doctoral Degree: You can stay for up to 3 years after graduation.

2. Eligibility

- You must have successfully completed a degree at undergraduate level or above at a UK Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance.
- You must apply from within the UK before your current student visa expires.

3. Work Rights

- There are no restrictions on the type of work you can do — you can be employed at any skill level, be self-employed, or even start your own business.

4. Further Stay

After the Graduate Route, if you find a suitable job, you may be able to switch to a skilled worker visa (such as the Skilled Worker Visa), which could eventually lead to settlement (permanent residency) in the UK.
