Is the 2-year UK PSW really useful if companies don't want to sponsor later?

That's a great and very important question, and many students and parents are asking the same thing!

Understanding the UK PSW (Post Study Work) Visa:
- The UK Graduate Route allows international students who have completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK for up to 2 years (18 months as per the latest update, but commonly referred to as 2 years).
- PhD graduates can stay for up to 3 years.

How is the PSW Useful?
1. Work Experience: It gives you the legal right to work full-time in any sector at any skill level, helping you gain valuable international work experience.
2. Career Development: You can explore your career interests, build contacts, and strengthen your CV/resume, which is valuable whether you stay in the UK, return to India, or move elsewhere.
3. Pathway to Sponsorship: While it’s true that not every employer is willing to sponsor a work visa (Skilled Worker Visa) after PSW, many do—especially in sectors like IT, engineering, business, healthcare, and STEM fields.
4. Try the UK Job Market: It gives you a real chance to understand and adapt to the UK job market, workplace culture, and expectations.

Challenges:
- Sponsorship is Competitive: Not every company is a licensed sponsor, and getting a Skilled Worker Visa after PSW does require finding an employer who will sponsor you.
- Not Guaranteed: The PSW itself does not lead to permanent residency unless you switch to a sponsored route.

Is it “worth it”?
- If your goal is UK work experience: Yes, PSW is extremely valuable for career growth and global exposure.
- If you want to settle long-term in the UK: It’s a stepping stone, but you’ll need to be proactive in finding a sponsor during your PSW period.
- If you plan to return to India: UK work experience is highly respected and can boost your job prospects back home.
