What questions should students ask about flexible degree structures?

That’s a great question! When exploring universities abroad—especially in countries like the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and more—many institutions offer flexible degree structures that allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Here are some important questions students should ask about flexible degree structures:

Key Questions to Ask:

1. What flexibility is available in choosing modules or courses?
- Can I select electives outside my main subject area?
- Are there compulsory/core modules I must complete?

2. Can I change my major, specialization, or minor during the course?
- What is the process and are there restrictions or deadlines for changing?

3. Is there an option for double majors or joint degrees?
- How does this affect the duration or cost of the program?

4. Can I take interdisciplinary courses or combine subjects from different faculties?
- Are there any programs that encourage interdisciplinary studies?

5. How is academic advising and support structured to help me make choices?
- Will I have access to an academic advisor or counselor?

6. What credit transfer or recognition of prior learning options are available?
- Can I transfer credits from another university or previous study?

7. How does the grading and assessment work for flexible courses?
- Are there differences in assessment between core and elective modules?

8. Are there internship, research, or study abroad opportunities integrated into the degree?
- How do these fit within a flexible degree structure?

9. What is the impact of flexible choices on eligibility for visas, post-study work, or professional accreditation?
- Will my choices affect my PSW (Post Study Work) eligibility or future career options?

10. How does course flexibility affect tuition fees or scholarship eligibility?
- Are there additional costs for certain electives or specializations?
