How can students check whether a joint degree is officially recognized?

Great question! Ensuring that a joint degree is officially recognized is crucial for your future studies and career prospects. Here’s how students can check whether a joint degree is officially recognized:

1. Check University Accreditation

- Accredited Institutions: Ensure both (or all) partner universities involved in the joint degree are officially accredited and recognized by their respective national education authorities.
- Official Websites: Visit the official websites of the universities. Look for sections on accreditation, recognition, or approvals.

2. Recognition by Education Authorities

- National Recognition: Check with the national education authorities or ministries of education of the countries where the universities are based. Most have online databases or lists of recognized institutions and programs.
- Official Resources:
- UK: UK Government’s list of recognized bodies
- USA: US Department of Education Database
- Australia: TEQSA National Register
- Canada: Universities Canada
- Europe: European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR) & European Higher Education Area (EHEA)

3. International Recognition

- NARIC/ENIC: Use the ENIC-NARIC network to check the recognition of foreign qualifications in Europe and other countries.
- Credential Evaluation: Some countries require an assessment or equivalency check by a credential evaluation service.

4. Program-Specific Recognition

- Joint Degree Details: Ensure the joint degree program itself is recognized, not just the institutions. Some universities collaborate on programs that may not be officially recognized as a “joint degree” by education authorities.
- Awarding Certificates: Check if the final degree certificate lists all partner universities and if it clearly states it is a joint or double degree.

5. Consult Pollster Education
