What is the minimum bank balance required for a UK student visa?

For a UK student visa (Student Route), you must show that you have enough money to cover your tuition fees and living expenses. The minimum bank balance required for living expenses is set by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) as follows:

Living Expenses (Maintenance Funds) as per UKVI:

- If studying in London:
£1,334 per month (up to a maximum of 9 months)
Total: £12,006 (for 9 months)

- If studying outside London:
£1,023 per month (up to a maximum of 9 months)
Total: £9,207 (for 9 months)

However, as per the very latest UKVI update (June 2024), the living expenses requirements have been increased:

- London: £1,483 per month (up to 9 months)
Total: £13,347
- Outside London: £1,136 per month (up to 9 months)
Total: £10,224

Additional Requirement:

- Tuition Fees:
You need to show proof of funds for the first year’s tuition fees (as mentioned on your CAS letter from the university), minus any deposit already paid to the university.

Example Calculation:

If your tuition fee is £15,000 for the first year, and you’ve already paid £5,000 as a deposit:
- Remaining tuition fees to show: £10,000
- Plus living expenses (e.g., studying in London): £13,347
- Total bank balance required: £23,347

Bank Statement Conditions:

- Funds must be held in your (or your parent’s) account for at least 28 consecutive days before the date of your visa application.
- The bank statement must be no more than 31 days old at the time of your application.
