Can I stay in USA during the 60-day grace period after OPT ends?

Yes, you can stay in the USA during the 60-day grace period after your OPT (Optional Practical Training) ends.

Here’s how it works:

- After your OPT ends (either after the 12-month standard OPT or after STEM OPT extension), you are granted a 60-day grace period.
- During these 60 days, you are allowed to remain in the United States, but you cannot work or continue your OPT employment.
- You can use this time to:
- Prepare for departure from the USA,
- Transfer your SEVIS record to another school for further study (if you have gained admission and received a new I-20),
- Change your visa status (if eligible and you apply during this period).

Important notes:
- You must not engage in employment during this grace period.
- If you do not take action (such as leaving the country, transferring to another program, or applying for a status change) within these 60 days, you will be out of status.
