What is the difference between London and non-London living cost proof for UK visa?

The main difference between London and non-London living cost proof for a UK student visa is the amount of funds you need to show as evidence for your living expenses, as set by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). This is because living in London is generally more expensive than in other parts of the UK.

As per the latest UKVI update (effective 11 November 2025):

- For students studying in London:
- You must show proof of £1,529 per month for up to 9 months.
- Total required: £13,761

- For students studying outside London:
- You must show proof of £1,171 per month for up to 9 months.
- Total required: £10,539

Why this difference?

- London has a higher cost of living, including accommodation, transport, and daily expenses.
- The UKVI defines "London" as the area covered by the Greater London Authority.

How to show proof?

- Bank statements (in your or your parent’s name)
- Student loan letter
- Scholarship letter (if applicable)

Important:

- You must show these funds in addition to your first year’s tuition fees.
- The money should have been in your account for at least 28 consecutive days before your visa application date.
