How does the UK Student Route visa 28-day bank rule work?

Great question! The 28-day bank rule is a key financial requirement for the UK Student Route visa. Here’s how it works:

What is the 28-Day Bank Rule?

When applying for a UK Student Route visa, you must show that you have held sufficient funds for at least 28 consecutive days in your bank account (or your parent’s account, with proof of relationship and consent).

How Much Money Do I Need to Show?

As per the latest UKVI update (from 11 November 2025):
- London: £1,529 per month (up to 9 months) – Total: £13,761
- Outside London: £1,171 per month (up to 9 months) – Total: £10,539
- Plus: Any outstanding tuition fees for the first year (if not already paid)

How Does the 28-Day Rule Work?

1. Funds must be held for at least 28 days:
The entire required amount must be in the account for a continuous 28-day period. The last date of this period is called the “closing balance date.”

2. Bank Statement Validity:
The closing balance date on your bank statement must not be more than 31 days before the date you submit your visa application.

Example:
- If you plan to apply for your visa on 1st August, your bank statement’s closing balance should be dated between 1st July and 1st August.
- The statement must show the required funds were in your account every day from 4th June to 1st July (28 days).

3. Acceptable accounts:
- Personal savings, current, or fixed deposit accounts (not shares, overdrafts, or business accounts).
- If using a parent’s account, you must provide your birth certificate and a letter of consent from them.

Tips:

- Never let your balance fall below the required amount during the 28 days, even for a single day.
- The statement must be official, showing your name, account number, bank’s name/logo, and transaction history.
