How much is the proof of funds required for NZ student visa?

For a New Zealand student visa, you are required to show proof of funds to demonstrate that you can support yourself during your studies. As per the latest guidelines, you must show that you have:

- NZD 20,000 per year for living expenses if your course is longer than 36 weeks, or
- NZD 1,667 per month if your course is less than 36 weeks.

In addition to tuition fees, you must also have enough funds for your return travel, or an additional NZD 1,000 for return airfare.

Acceptable proof of funds includes:
- Bank statements (usually for the past 6 months)
- Fixed deposits
- Education loan sanction letters
- Sponsorship letters (if applicable)
- Funds must generally be in your or your sponsor’s name.

Tip: Immigration New Zealand may ask for additional documents or clarification, so it’s best to provide clear, genuine, and easily verifiable evidence of funds.
