Can students study in Canada with partial scholarships?

Yes, students can absolutely study in Canada with partial scholarships! Many Canadian universities and colleges offer partial scholarships to international students, which can help cover a portion of your tuition fees, living expenses, or other costs associated with studying abroad.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. What is a Partial Scholarship?

A partial scholarship typically covers only part of your expenses—such as a percentage of your tuition fees, or a fixed monetary amount per year or semester. It does not cover all costs, so you will still need to arrange funds for the remaining tuition, living expenses, and other costs.

2. Eligibility for Partial Scholarships

- Criteria vary by university and scholarship program.
- Common factors include academic merit, extracurricular achievements, leadership skills, or financial need.
- Some scholarships are automatically considered with your university application, while others require a separate application.

3. Popular Canadian Partial Scholarships for International Students

- York University International Student Scholarship
- University of British Columbia International Major Entrance Scholarship
- Humber College International Entrance Scholarships
- Carleton University Entrance Awards for International Students
- Concordia University International Tuition Award of Excellence

These scholarships typically range from CAD 1,000 to CAD 20,000 per year, depending on the institution and your profile.

4. Proof of Funds Requirement

Even with a partial scholarship, you must show proof of sufficient funds for your Canadian student visa (Study Permit) application. This includes:
- Tuition fees minus any scholarship amount
- Living expenses (at least CAD 10,000 per year outside Quebec, or CAD 11,000 in Quebec)
- Travel costs
