2. Contact Your Country’s Embassy or Consulate
- For Indian citizens, contact the Indian Embassy or Consulate in Switzerland (located in Bern or Geneva) as soon as possible. Provide them with the police report and any identification you have.

3. Apply for an Emergency Certificate or New Passport
- The Embassy/Consulate can issue an Emergency Certificate (EC) for travel back to India, or help you apply for a new passport if you are staying longer.
- You’ll typically need:
- A copy of the police report
- Passport-size photographs
- Proof of your student status or visa
- Passport details (photocopy or scanned copy, if available)
- Application form and applicable fees

4. Notify Your University and Local Immigration Office
- Inform your university’s international office and the local Swiss immigration office (migration authority). They may need updated documents for your student records and residence permit.

5. Replace Your Swiss Residence Permit (if applicable)
- If you have a Swiss residence permit/card and it was lost with your passport, report it to the authorities and request a replacement.

6. Monitor for Misuse
- Watch for any suspicious activity involving your lost passport, and alert authorities if you notice anything unusual.

- Keep digital copies of your passport and visa in your email or cloud storage for easy access.
- Always carry a copy of your passport and visa, not the originals, when going around locally.
