Requirements for Parents to Visit Germany

1. Visa Application:
Parents must apply for a short-term Schengen Visa (Visitor Visa) at the German consulate or embassy in their home country (India).

2. Documents Needed:
- Completed and signed visa application form
- Valid passport
- Passport-size photos (as per Schengen specifications)
- Proof of purpose of visit (invitation letter from the student, proof of enrollment at a German university)
- Proof of financial means (bank statements, sponsor letter, etc.)
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter including address)
- Travel health insurance (coverage of at least €30,000 valid in Schengen area)
- Proof of return (flight reservation, leave letter from employer if employed)
- Cover letter explaining the purpose of visit and relationship to the student

3. Invitation Letter:
The student can provide a formal invitation letter, which may be notarized and include details about their studies, address in Germany, and intention to host their parents.

4. Processing Time:
Typically, it takes around 2–4 weeks for the visa to be processed, but it’s wise to apply well in advance of the intended travel date.

Important Notes

- If parents wish to stay for more than 90 days, a long-term visa is required, but this is generally more difficult and is only granted in exceptional cases (long-term family reunion, etc.).
- The visa does not permit work or long-term stay.
