What happens after Canada visa approval?

Congratulations on your Canada visa approval! Here’s what typically happens next and what you should prepare for:

1. Receive Your Passport and Visa (or Port of Entry Letter)
- If you applied offline, you’ll receive your passport with the visa stamped.
- If you applied online, you’ll receive a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction via email and your passport will be returned with a visa sticker (if applicable).
- For most students, you’ll also get a temporary resident visa (TRV) or an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.

2. Pre-Departure Arrangements
- Book your flight to Canada! You should plan to arrive before your course start date, but not too early (generally, up to a month in advance is safe).
- Arrange accommodation (on-campus, off-campus, or temporary stay).
- Prepare your finances (open a GIC account if you haven’t, and carry proof of funds).
- Purchase health insurance if not already provided by your university.

3. Prepare Your Documents for Travel
Carry the following documents with you in your hand luggage:
- Passport with visa or eTA
- POE Letter of Introduction
- Letter of Acceptance from your Canadian university/college
- Proof of funds (bank statements, GIC, loan letters, scholarship, etc.)
- Tuition fee payment receipts
- Accommodation details
- Medical exam results (if required)
- Any correspondence from the university/college
- COVID-19-related documents (if applicable)

4. Arrival in Canada (At the Port of Entry)
- Meet with a Canadian Border Services Officer.
- Show your documents (see list above).
- The officer will verify your details and issue your study permit (do NOT leave the airport without receiving this document).
- Answer any questions honestly and clearly.

5. After Arrival
- Attend your university/college orientation.
- Get your student ID and register for classes.
- Open a Canadian bank account.
- Apply for your Social Insurance Number (SIN) for part-time work.
- Set up local mobile/internet connections and other essentials.

6. Know Your Rights and Responsibilities
- You must maintain full-time student status and make satisfactory academic progress.
- You may work up to 20 hours per week during academic sessions, and full-time during scheduled breaks (as per new IRCC rules).
