What happens after Australia visa approval?

Congratulations on your Australia student visa approval! Here’s what typically happens next, and how Pollster Education can help you prepare for your journey:

1. Receive Your Visa Grant Notice

- You’ll get an official visa grant letter via email from the Department of Home Affairs.
- This document includes your visa grant number, validity dates, and visa conditions.

2. Check Your Visa Conditions

- Carefully read the visa grant notice.
- Typical conditions for student visas (subclass 500) include:
- Work rights (usually up to 48 hours per fortnight during term).
- Obligation to maintain enrolment in a registered course.
- Maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay.
- Notify your address within 7 days of arrival.

3. Book Your Flights

- Compare flight options – book early for best rates.
- Ensure your arrival date allows time to settle in before orientation.

4. Arrange Accommodation

- Consider on-campus housing, homestays, or private rentals.
- Universities often offer temporary accommodation advice.

5. Organize Your Finances

- Make arrangements to transfer funds as per your needs.
- Set up a bank account in Australia (many banks allow pre-arrival account setup).

6. Prepare Documents for Travel

Carry:
- Your valid passport.
- Visa grant notice.
- Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
- OSHC details.
- Academic and other important documents.
- Accommodation and airport pickup confirmation (if arranged).

7. Plan Your Arrival

- Check your university’s orientation week schedule.
- Organize airport pickup if offered by your university.

8. Understand What to Do Upon Arrival

- Declare any items as required at customs.
- Attend orientation and register at your institution.
- Activate your OSHC and local SIM card.
- Register your address with your university and update your address with the Department of Home Affairs if needed.

9. Stay Compliant

- Maintain full-time enrolment.
- Adhere to your visa conditions.
- Keep your OSHC valid at all times.
