Can education loan be used for Australia visa?

Yes, education loans are widely accepted as proof of funds for an Australia student visa application.

When applying for an Australian student visa (subclass 500), you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, and any dependents. Using an education loan sanctioned by a recognized bank or financial institution is a common and acceptable way to meet these financial requirements.

What You Need to Know:

1. Acceptable Proof:
- An official sanction letter from the bank showing the approved education loan amount.
- The loan must cover tuition, living expenses (minimum AUD 29,710 per year as per 2025 rules), and travel costs.

2. Disbursement:
- It is not mandatory for the loan amount to be disbursed before the visa is granted, but the sanction letter must clearly mention the amount, purpose, and your name.

3. Documentation:
- Include the original or attested copy of the loan sanction letter with your visa application.
- Sometimes, the visa officer may request proof of collateral/security or the bank’s disbursement process.

4. Recognized Institutions:
- The loan should be from a nationalized or reputable private bank (State Bank of India, HDFC, Axis Bank, etc.), not from unregistered money lenders.

5. Combining Funds:
- You can also show a mix of savings, family funds, and education loan to meet the total financial requirement.

Important Update:

- From 1st July 2025, the new financial requirement for living expenses is AUD 29,710 per year.
- Application fee for the main applicant is now AUD 2000.
