What happens after France visa approval?

Congratulations on your France student visa approval! Here’s what typically happens next and what you should do to prepare for your studies in France:

1. Receive Your Visa

- You will receive a long-stay student visa (VLS-TS), usually stamped or affixed in your passport.
- Double-check all details (name, validity dates, type of visa) for accuracy.

2. Travel Arrangements

- You can now book your flight to France.
- Make sure your arrival date aligns with your course start date and accommodation availability.

3. Accommodation

- Confirm your accommodation in France (university residence, private housing, etc.).
- Prepare documents you might need for check-in (visa, admission letter, proof of payment, etc.).

4. Arrival in France

- Carry all important documents: passport with visa, admission letter, accommodation proof, financial evidence, insurance, etc.
- At the airport, French border officials may ask to see these documents.

5. Visa Validation

- Within 3 months of arrival, you must validate your VLS-TS visa online at the French government portal (https://administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr).
- You will need:
- Your visa details
- French address
- Credit/debit card for the validation fee (approx. €60)
- After validation, you’ll receive a confirmation document, which is essential for your legal stay.

6. Health Insurance

- If you’re under 28, register for French student social security (Sécurité Sociale) on https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr.
- If over 28, arrange private health insurance.

7. University Registration

- Complete your registration/enrolment at your university.
- Attend orientation sessions and get your student ID card.

8. Opening a Bank Account

- You may want to open a French bank account for accommodation payments, receiving scholarships, etc.

9. Residence Permit Renewal (if staying over a year)

- If your course is longer than one year, apply for a residence permit (carte de séjour) before your visa expires.
