How much bank balance is required for UK visa?

For a UK Student Visa, you must show proof of sufficient funds to cover your living expenses and your first year’s tuition fees (or the full course fee if your course is less than a year). The amount you need for living expenses depends on where you will be studying:

As per the latest UKVI update (effective from 11 November 2025):

- If studying in London:
You need to show £1,529 per month for up to 9 months (total: £13,761).

- If studying outside London:
You need to show £1,171 per month for up to 9 months (total: £10,539).

In summary:
- London: £13,761 (for living costs) + first year’s tuition fees
- Outside London: £10,539 (for living costs) + first year’s tuition fees

How to show funds:
- The required amount should be held in your or your parent’s bank account for at least 28 consecutive days before you apply for your visa.
- You can also show funds through a student loan letter or an official financial sponsorship.
