How important is financial proof for UK visa?

Financial proof is extremely important for a UK student visa application. The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires all international students to demonstrate that they have enough funds to cover their tuition fees and living expenses while studying in the UK. This financial requirement is a critical part of your visa application and failing to provide adequate evidence can result in your visa being refused.

Why is Financial Proof Important?

- Shows you can support yourself: The UK government wants to ensure that international students will not face financial hardship or rely on public funds during their studies.
- Visa compliance: It is a mandatory requirement under the Student Route (Tier 4) visa policy.
- Prevents fraud: It helps prevent misuse of the student visa system.

UKVI Financial Requirements (as of November 2025)

You must show you have enough money for:
- Course Tuition Fees (as stated on your CAS letter)
- Living Expenses (for up to 9 months):
- London: £1,529 per month (Total: £13,761)
- Outside London: £1,171 per month (Total: £10,539)

Acceptable Financial Evidence

- Bank statements (from a regulated financial institution, covering 28 consecutive days)
- Student loan letter
- Official financial sponsorship or scholarship letter

What Happens If I Don’t Provide Adequate Financial Proof?

- Your visa application can be rejected.
- You may need to reapply, which means additional costs and delays.
