What happens after USA visa is approved?

Congratulations on getting your USA student visa approved! Here’s what happens next after your F-1 (student) visa is approved:

1. Passport Collection

- Your passport, stamped with the US visa, will be returned to you. You’ll be notified by email/SMS about when and where to collect it or if it will be delivered to your address.

2. Review Your Visa

- Check all details on your visa stamp for accuracy (name, date of birth, SEVIS number, university name, etc.). Contact the embassy immediately if you notice any errors.

3. Pay SEVIS Fee (if not already paid)

- Most students pay the SEVIS I-901 fee before the visa interview, but ensure you keep the SEVIS fee receipt, as this may be asked for at the port of entry.

4. Travel Arrangements

- You can travel to the US up to 30 days before the program start date mentioned on your I-20 form.
- Book your flight tickets accordingly.

5. Prepare Documents for Travel

Carry the following documents in your cabin bag:
- Valid passport with US visa
- Original I-20 form (signed)
- SEVIS fee payment receipt
- University admission letter
- Proof of financial support (bank statements, loan letters, scholarship letters, etc.)
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- Proof of accommodation (if available)
- Any other documents recommended by your university

6. Plan for Arrival in the US

- Arrange for airport pickup and temporary accommodation, if needed.
- Inform your university’s International Student Office about your arrival details, as many universities offer orientation programs.

7. At the US Port of Entry

- You’ll be interviewed by a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer.
- Present your documents for inspection.
- Answer questions about your study plans and university honestly.
- Your entry will be recorded, and your I-20 will be stamped.

8. Report to University

- Upon arrival, report to your university’s International Student Office.
- Attend any mandatory orientation and complete registration formalities.
- Update your address and contact information as required by the university and SEVIS.

9. Settle In

- Open a bank account, get a local SIM card, arrange for health insurance, and familiarize yourself with campus facilities.
