What risks should parents consider before sending child to UK?

That’s a very thoughtful question! Sending your child to study in the UK is a significant and positive step, but like any major decision, it’s important for parents to consider certain risks and plan accordingly. Here are some key risks (and how Pollster Education helps address them):

---

1. Financial Risks

- High Cost of Living: Living expenses in the UK are substantial, especially in London (£1,529/month as per 2026 UKVI update). Make sure you have a realistic budget and proof of funds for the visa.
- Fluctuating Exchange Rates: Currency fluctuations can impact the actual cost.
- Unexpected Expenses: Medical emergencies, accommodation changes, and travel costs can arise.

How We Help: Pollster Education provides detailed budgeting guidance and helps you estimate all costs, including living, tuition, and insurance.

---

2. Academic Risks

- Adjustment to New Education System: The UK academic style may differ (more independent learning, critical thinking).
- Course Mismatch: Choosing the wrong course or university can affect academic success and employability.

How We Help: We provide personalized counseling to match your child’s background, interests, and career goals with the right course and university.

---

3. Visa and Legal Risks

- Visa Rejection: Incomplete or incorrect documentation can lead to visa refusal.
- Immigration Rule Changes: UK visa and immigration policies can change (e.g., financial requirements, PSW rules).

How We Help: Our experts guide you through every step of the UK visa process, ensuring all documents meet UKVI requirements.

---

4. Safety & Well-being

- Personal Safety: While the UK is generally safe, students should be aware of personal safety, theft, and scams.
- Mental Health: Being away from home can lead to loneliness or culture shock.

How We Help: We provide pre-departure sessions on safety, UK culture, and mental health resources.

---

5. Career & Post-Study Risks

- Job Market Uncertainty: PSW (Post Study Work) rules allow up to 18 months after graduation, but jobs are competitive.
- Visa to Work Transition: Securing a sponsored job for a work visa after PSW is not guaranteed.

How We Help: We advise on employability, internships, and university career services to maximize post-study opportunities.

---

6. Health & Insurance

- Healthcare Access: Students pay an NHS surcharge for healthcare, but some services may not be covered.

How We Help: We explain the NHS surcharge and recommend additional insurance if necessary.

---

7. Accommodation Risks

- Quality and Safety: Not all accommodation is equal; scams exist.
- Contracts: Some rental agreements can be tricky.

How We Help: We guide students on safe options and how to avoid common pitfalls.

---

Summary

- Plan finances and budget for hidden costs
- Choose course and university carefully
- Prepare for culture and academic differences
- Stay informed on visa and immigration changes
- Understand health, accommodation, and career options
