How long is Switzerland student visa valid?

The Switzerland student visa (also known as the Swiss National Visa or D-Visa for studies) is generally valid for the duration of your academic program, subject to a maximum period of one year at a time.

Key points:
- If your course is longer than one year, you will need to renew your residence permit annually.
- For short-term courses (less than 90 days), a Schengen Type C visa may be issued.
- For full-time degree programs (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD), you will receive a residence permit (Permit B), typically valid for 1 year and renewable each year as long as you continue your studies and meet the requirements.

Renewal:
You must apply for the renewal before your permit expires by showing continued enrollment, academic progress, and financial means.
