How much bank balance required for UK student visa?

For a UK Student Visa, you must show proof of sufficient funds to cover your living expenses and your first year’s tuition fees (or the full course fees if your course is less than a year).

As per the latest UKVI requirements (effective 11 November 2025):

Living Expenses (Maintenance Funds)

- Studying in London:
You must show £1,529 per month for up to 9 months (Total: £13,761).
- Studying outside London:
You must show £1,171 per month for up to 9 months (Total: £10,539).

Tuition Fees

You also need to show funds to cover your first year’s tuition fees, as specified in your university offer letter.

Example:

- If your tuition fee is £15,000 and your course is in London, you need to show a total of £15,000 (tuition) + £13,761 (living expenses) = £28,761 in your bank account.

Requirements for Proof:

- The money should be held in your (or your parent’s) bank account for at least 28 consecutive days before you apply for the visa.
- Financial documents must not be more than 31 days old on the date of your visa application.

Additional Notes:

- If you have paid any tuition fee deposit or accommodation fees in advance, you can deduct these from the total amount you need to show, provided you have official receipts.
- If you are accompanied by dependents, you will need to show additional funds for each dependent.
