Can I work more than 20 hours per week in Canada?

In Canada, international students with a valid study permit are generally allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions (semesters) and full-time during scheduled breaks such as winter or summer holidays and spring break.

However, there was a temporary policy in place (between November 15, 2022, and April 30, 2024) that allowed some international students to work more than 20 hours per week off-campus. As of now, this temporary measure has ended, and the standard rule applies again.

Current Rule (2024 onwards):
- During regular academic sessions: Maximum 20 hours per week off-campus.
- During scheduled breaks: You may work full-time.

Working more than 20 hours per week during regular classes is not permitted and can negatively affect your immigration status, including future visa and PR applications.
