Program Overview

This intensive one-year program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the geoscientist's role within the mining sector. It emphasizes practical skills and theoretical knowledge essential for success in mineral exploration and mining geology.

Curriculum: The curriculum encompasses geological and geotechnical mapping, mineral exploration techniques, ore microscopy, and ore deposit modeling. Students gain expertise in mineral resource estimation, grade control, mineral extraction management, and assessing the environmental impacts of mining. A significant component is the individual research project undertaken during the summer, often in collaboration with mining or exploration companies, providing hands-on industry experience.

Research Focus: CSM is internationally recognized for its research in mining, tunneling, mineralogy, mineral economics, geology, geophysics, and geochemistry.
