Program Overview

This MSc program is tailored for graduates in archaeology or related scientific disciplines, aiming to advance their careers in archaeological science. It provides intensive preparation for doctoral research and equips students with transferable skills such as critical thinking, project management, written and verbal communication, and problem-solving.

Curriculum: The curriculum offers two pathways: Artefact, and Landscape and Environment. Both pathways are suitable for graduates in archaeology or a science subject and want to start or further their career in these exciting fields.

Research Focus: Students engage in original research projects, supported by experts in archaeology, to develop into independent researchers. The program provides intensive preparation for doctoral research, guiding students through the research process and equipping them with transferable skills.

Industry Engagement: The program prepares students for roles as post-excavation or artefact specialists in the museum or commercial sectors, providing skills attractive to employers in these fields.

Global Perspective: Fieldwork is an important part of research in archaeology, with projects based internationally in countries such as Egypt, Greece, Bulgaria, Jordan, Turkey, Italy, Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Africa, as well as in the British Isles.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements:

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 60% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.0.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 88, with at least 21 in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 62 with no individual score below 51.
  • Some postgraduate programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

Students must provide:

  • letters of recommendation
  • a personal statement - SOP
  • passport
  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.
