Program Overview

Course Structure:
The MEng in Civil Engineering consists of a combination of core modules, optional modules, and a final-year project. The specific modules offered may vary, but typical modules are : 

  1. Structural Engineering: Students learn about the behavior and design of different structural elements, such as beams, columns, and frames. They study advanced topics in structural analysis, including the analysis of statically indeterminate structures and the principles of structural dynamics.
  2. Geotechnical Engineering: This module focuses on the behavior and properties of soils and rocks, and their application to civil engineering projects. Students learn about soil mechanics, foundation design, and slope stability analysis.
  3. Water and Environmental Engineering: Students explore topics related to water supply, wastewater treatment, and environmental management. They learn about hydraulic engineering principles, water quality assessment, and sustainable water resource management.
  4. Construction Management: This module introduces students to the management principles and practices required for successful construction projects. They learn about project planning, risk management, contract administration, and health and safety considerations in the construction industry.
  5. Engineering Mathematics and Numerical Methods: This module provides students with a solid foundation in mathematical techniques and numerical methods commonly used in civil engineering analysis and design.

In the final year of the program, students undertake a substantial individual project where they apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world civil engineering problem. This project allows students to demonstrate their ability to carry out independent research, analysis, and design.

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 60% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 90, with at least 19 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 19 in Speaking, and 23 in Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 60 with no individual score below 59.
  • Some postgraduate programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

  6. Glasgow Refugee, Asylum and Migration Network Scholarship: This scholarship is available to students who have sought refuge in the UK and are studying any undergraduate or postgraduate program.
