Program Overview

The MRes in Work and Organisation focuses on developing a deep understanding of organizational structures, behaviors, and dynamics. Students engage with contemporary debates and research, gaining insights into the complex internal politics and policies that influence organizational effectiveness. The program emphasizes a critical examination of current theories and practices, fostering the ability to conduct independent, high-quality research.

Curriculum: The curriculum is structured to provide a solid foundation in research methodologies and specialized knowledge. Core modules include "Introduction to Social Science 1: Epistemology, Research Design, and Qualitative Methods," "Introduction to Social Science 2: Quantitative Methods and Data," and a substantial dissertation project. Students can customize their learning experience by selecting from a range of elective modules such as "Managing Diversity," "Organisational Behaviour," "Strategic Management," and "International Business Strategy." This flexible structure allows students to align their studies with their research interests and career objectives.

Research Focus: A significant component of the program is the dissertation, which requires students to undertake an original research project in their chosen area of interest. This project develops skills in formulating research questions, data analysis, and academic writing. Throughout the process, students receive guidance from experienced faculty members, ensuring rigorous academic standards and contributing to the broader discourse in business and management research.

Industry Engagement: While the MRes is primarily research-oriented, QMUL's School of Business and Management maintains strong connections with industry partners. Students benefit from exposure to real-world organizational challenges and practices through guest lectures, workshops, and networking events. These interactions enhance the practical relevance of the academic training, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

Global Perspective: Located in London, QMUL offers a vibrant and diverse environment, attracting students and faculty from around the world. This multicultural setting enriches the learning experience, providing a global context for the study of work and organization. The program encourages students to consider international perspectives and challenges, preparing them to operate effectively in a globalized business landscape.
