The MA Theatre and Performance program at QMUL provides a flexible curriculum that balances rigorous theoretical exploration with experimental performance practice. Students engage deeply with topics including performance and embodiment, performance ethics, live art, and art as activism. The program encourages the development of original, thought-provoking work, fostering both scholarly and practical skills.
Curriculum: The curriculum comprises four assessed modules and a dissertation. Core modules include "Culture, Ethics, Politics," which explores urgent socio-political and aesthetic issues in contemporary theatre and performance, and "Body, Action, Documentation," focusing on the relationship between text, self, and performance. Students can choose between a written dissertation (12,000-15,000 words) or a practice-based dissertation, allowing for practical research in theatre and performance.

Students receive guidance from experienced faculty members and participate in a dissertation colloquium to present their research in progress, fostering a vibrant research community.
Industry Engagement: Located in London, QMUL leverages its proximity to a rich array of cultural institutions. The program offers opportunities for brief placements with partner organizations or artists, enabling students to gain practical experience and build professional networks. Regular workshops and mentoring sessions with in-house and visiting artists further enhance industry engagement.
