INTAKE: September
This full-time, three-year clinical doctorate program is tailored for dentists seeking specialization in prosthodontics. Upon completion, graduates are prepared to sit for the specialty membership examinations of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd). Notably, a joint exit assessment between the University and RCSEd allows candidates to earn both the DClinDent and specialty membership without separate examinations.
Curriculum: The first year provides a solid foundation in restorative dentistry, covering endodontic, periodontal, and prosthodontic treatments. Students develop clinical skills through hands-on training and attend treatment planning clinics. In the subsequent years, the focus shifts to prosthodontics, offering extensive practical experience with patients. The curriculum aligns with the UK's General Dental Council specialty curricula, ensuring comprehensive coverage over the three years.
Research Focus: The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, encouraging students to engage in research projects that contribute to advancements in prosthodontic techniques and patient care. Under the guidance of experienced faculty, students undertake research that informs their clinical practice and contributes to the broader dental community.
Industry Engagement: Students benefit from the University's strong connections with dental professionals and organizations, providing opportunities for collaborative learning, guest lectures, and exposure to current industry practices. These interactions enhance clinical training and prepare students for real-world challenges in prosthodontics.
Global Perspective: The program attracts a diverse cohort of students, fostering a global learning environment. Collaborations with international dental institutions and adherence to global standards ensure that graduates are equipped to practice prosthodontics worldwide.
