Program Overview

The University of Glasgow's MSc in City Planning is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the planning process, as well as the skills required to apply this knowledge in practical settings. The program covers a broad range of topics related to urban planning, including urban design, land use planning, environmental planning, and transportation planning.

Throughout the program, students will develop their analytical and critical thinking skills, learning how to evaluate complex planning issues and develop effective solutions. They will also develop practical skills, such as GIS mapping, surveying, and data analysis, which are essential for working in the planning field.

The MSc in City Planning is a one-year full-time program, although part-time study options are available. The program consists of eight taught courses and a research dissertation, which allows students to pursue their own research interests in greater depth.The program is designed to prepare graduates for a wide range of careers in planning, including roles in local and national government, private consulting firms, and non-profit organizations. It also provides a solid foundation for further research or study in related fields.

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 60% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 90, with at least 19 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 19 in Speaking, and 23 in Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 60 with no individual score below 59.
  • Some postgraduate programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.

  4. Chancellors Award: This scholarship is available to both domestic and international students studying any discipline at the University of Glasgow and offers a tuition fee discount of up to £10,000.
  5. Glasgow International Leadership Scholarship: This scholarship is available to international students studying any postgraduate program and offers a tuition fee discount of up to £10,000.
  6. Glasgow Refugee, Asylum and Migration Network Scholarship: This scholarship is available to students who have sought refuge in the UK and are studying any undergraduate or postgraduate program.
