Program Overview

This degree program bridges the divide between aeronautics and mechanical engineering, providing graduates with the cross-disciplinary background needed to flourish in one of the most challenging engineering fields. Students benefit from strong links with the aerospace industry, including a flight-testing course in a Saab 340B aircraft for MEng students.

Curriculum: The program spans four years for the BEng degree and five years for the MEng degree. In the first year, students engage in a wide-ranging curriculum that includes courses in aeronautics, mathematics, dynamics, electronics, materials, statics, thermodynamics, and engineering skills. This interdisciplinary approach, favored by industry, also makes it possible to switch to most other engineering disciplines at the end of year 1 should you wish to do so. In years 2 and 3, the focus shifts to more advanced subjects such as aerodynamics, aircraft performance, dynamics and control, flight mechanics, materials and manufacture, simulation of engineering systems, mechanics of materials and structures, propulsion and turbomachinery, and heat transfer. Students also participate in industry visits and undertake a team aerospace design project. Years 4 and 5 (for MEng students) delve into core mechanical engineering and aeronautics subjects, with options for advanced studies. A significant component is the individual aerospace-focused project in year 5, complemented by options from advanced engineering subjects.
