Program Overview

The MA Computer Animation program at Kingston University is designed to equip students with the technical skills and artistic creativity required to excel in the dynamic field of computer animation. 

  1. Animation Techniques: Students will learn a variety of animation techniques, including 2D, 3D, and stop-motion, enabling them to create captivating and visually stunning animations.

  2. Character Animation: Emphasis is placed on character development and animation, allowing students to bring characters to life through movement and expression.

  3. Visual Effects: Students will explore the world of visual effects, learning how to integrate animated elements seamlessly into live-action footage.

  4. Storyboarding and Pre-visualization: Understanding the importance of storyboarding and pre-visualization in the animation production process.

  5. Industry-standard Software: Hands-on experience with industry-standard animation software, such as Maya, Blender, and After Effects.

  6. Collaborative Projects: Working in teams on animation projects, simulating real-world industry scenarios.

  7. Digital Art and Design: Developing skills in digital art and design to enhance the overall quality of animations.

  8. Research and Critical Analysis: Encouraging students to critically analyze animation works and explore contemporary trends in the industry.

  9. Individual Project: Students will undertake an individual animation project, allowing them to specialize in their area of interest.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements:

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 60% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.0.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 88, with at least 21 in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and  Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 59 with no individual score below 59.

Students must provide:

  • letters of recommendation
  • a personal statement - SOP
  • passport
  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.
