Program Overview

The MSc Sport and Exercise Science program at the University of Essex is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required to analyze, enhance, and optimize human performance in various sport and exercise contexts.

Students gain an understanding of macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration, and the timing of nutritional interventions for optimal performance. They also learn how to develop evidence-based nutrition plans for athletes and individuals engaging in exercise programs.

  5. Strength and Conditioning: The program covers the principles and practices of strength and conditioning, focusing on improving muscular strength, power, and endurance. Students learn how to design periodized training programs, assess and monitor athletes' physical fitness, and apply appropriate strength and conditioning techniques.

  6. Performance Analysis: The program introduces students to performance analysis techniques used to assess and enhance athletic performance. Students learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources, such as video analysis, wearable technology, and statistical software. They also explore the use of technology for feedback and coaching in sports performance.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements:

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of  50 to 55% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.0.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 90.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 62 with no individual score below 51.
  • Some postgraduate programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

Students must provide:

  • passport
  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.
