INTAKE: October

Program Overview

The MSc Medical Statistics and Health Data Science program at the University of Bristol provides students with a comprehensive understanding of statistical methods and their application in the field of health data analysis. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to enable students to handle and interpret health data effectively.

  1. Core Statistical Methods: Students gain a strong foundation in statistical methods commonly used in medical and health research. They learn about probability theory, linear regression, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, and Bayesian statistics. These methodologies equip students with the skills needed to analyze complex health data sets.

  2. Health Data Management: The program focuses on data management techniques specific to health research. Students learn about data collection, data cleaning, and data integration methods. They also gain hands-on experience with statistical software and programming languages commonly used in health data analysis.

  3. Advanced Statistical Techniques: The program covers advanced statistical techniques relevant to health research, such as hierarchical models, multilevel modeling, and machine learning algorithms. Students learn to apply these techniques to extract meaningful insights from health data and make evidence-based decisions.

  4. Applied Health Data Analysis: The program emphasizes the practical application of statistical methods in health data analysis. Students work on real-world health datasets and learn to analyze and interpret the data to address research questions or solve health-related problems. They develop the skills to communicate their findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  5. Research Project: The program includes a research project where students apply their knowledge and skills to a specific health research problem. Under the guidance of faculty members, students conduct independent research, analyze health data, and present their findings in a dissertation. This project allows students to explore a particular area of interest and contribute to the advancement of medical statistics and health data science.
