Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Academic Qualifications: Applicants for undergraduate programs typically require a minimum academic achievement of 65% or above in their previous academic qualifications.

English Language Proficiency:

• IELTS: Overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each component.
• TOEFL: Overall score of 79 with a minimum of 21 in each section.
• PTE (Pearson Test of English): Overall score of 65 with a minimum of 58 in each section.

Students must provide:

• academic marksheets & transcripts
• letters of recommendation
• a personal statement - SOP
• passport
• other supporting documents as required by the university.

It's important to note that entry requirements can vary by program and may change over time. Additionally, some programs may have additional requirements, such as interviews, portfolios, or work experience.

Graduates of Deakin University's Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program possess the legal knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical understanding necessary for a variety of legal careers. 

Solicitor: Solicitors provide legal advice, draft legal documents, and represent clients in negotiations and court proceedings. They work in law firms, government agencies, corporate legal departments, or as sole practitioners specializing in areas such as family law, property law, commercial law, or criminal law.

Barrister: Barristers specialize in advocacy, representing clients in courts and tribunals. They provide legal opinions, prepare legal arguments, cross-examine witnesses, and present cases before judges and juries. Barristers may specialize in criminal law, civil litigation, administrative law, or appellate advocacy.

Corporate Counsel: Corporate counsel work as in-house lawyers for corporations, advising on legal matters related to corporate governance, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, and employment law. They provide strategic legal advice to support business operations and manage legal risks.

Government Lawyer: Government lawyers work for government departments, agencies, or regulatory bodies, advising on legislative compliance, policy development, and administrative law matters. They may specialize in areas such as public law, environmental law, taxation law, or human rights law within the public sector.

Legal Consultant/Advisor: Legal consultants provide specialized expertise to businesses, nonprofits, or government entities on legal issues and regulatory compliance. They may work on projects such as legal due diligence, risk assessment, contract negotiations, or dispute resolution, offering strategic advice to clients.

Judicial Clerk: Judicial clerks assist judges in researching legal issues, drafting opinions, and analyzing case precedents. They work in courts at various levels, gaining insights into judicial decision-making processes and courtroom procedures. Judicial clerkships are often a pathway to further legal career advancement.

Human Rights Advocate: Human rights advocates work for nonprofit organizations, international NGOs, or advocacy groups, promoting human rights, social justice, and equality through legal advocacy, policy reform, and public awareness campaigns. They may specialize in areas such as refugee rights, indigenous rights, or gender equality.

Legal Academia: Graduates interested in teaching and research can pursue careers in legal academia by obtaining advanced degrees (LLM or PhD) and teaching law courses at universities or law schools. They conduct legal research, publish scholarly articles, and contribute to legal scholarship and education.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Specialist: ADR specialists facilitate out-of-court dispute resolution processes such as mediation, arbitration, or negotiation. They help parties resolve conflicts amicably and efficiently without litigation, promoting alternative methods to achieve fair and equitable resolutions.
