Program Overview

The BA Hons Music program at University College Cork (UCC) offers students a comprehensive and enriching education in music theory, history, performance, composition, and music technology. Music Technology: In an age where technology plays a significant role in music production and performance, the BA Hons Music program integrates music technology into its curriculum. Students learn to use digital audio workstations (DAWs), MIDI sequencing software, and music notation software to compose, arrange, record, and produce music, gaining valuable skills for careers in music production, sound engineering, and multimedia.

Interdisciplinary Perspectives: The program embraces interdisciplinary approaches to music, encouraging students to explore connections between music and other disciplines such as literature, art, philosophy, and psychology. Students have the opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary projects, collaborate with students from other departments, and gain a broader understanding of the role of music in society and culture.

Academic Qualifications: For undergraduate programs, applicants require a minimum academic score of 80-85% or above in their previous studies.

English Language Proficiency:

  • IELTS: Overall score of 6.0 or 6.5, with no individual band below 5.5.
  • TOEFL: Overall score of 90, with specific section requirements: Listening 20, Reading 20, Speaking 21, Writing 20.
  • PTE: Overall score of 63, with no section below 59.
  • DET: Overall score of 120, with a minimum of 110.
