Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Young People, Family and Community program at the University of Wolverhampton is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively with young people and families in diverse community settings. This interdisciplinary program integrates theories from sociology, psychology, social work, and education to provide a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by young people and families. Students explore topics such as child development, social policy, youth culture, community engagement, and safeguarding practices. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of collaboration, advocacy, and social justice in supporting the well-being and empowerment of young people and families. Through a combination of academic study, practical placements, and experiential learning, students develop critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and cultural competence necessary for careers in social services, youth work, community development, or family support services.

  2. Social Policy and Welfare Services: Students learn about social policies and welfare services that impact young people and families, critically analyzing government initiatives and advocacy efforts to address social inequalities.

  3. Community Engagement and Empowerment: The curriculum emphasizes community engagement strategies, equipping students with skills to promote active participation, inclusion, and empowerment within diverse communities.

  4. Safeguarding and Well-being: Students gain knowledge of safeguarding practices and legislation related to child protection and well-being, learning how to identify and respond to risks and vulnerabilities.

  5. Professional Practice and Reflective Learning: The program includes practical placements or work-based learning opportunities, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and develop reflective practice skills.

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Academic Qualifications: Applicants should have successfully completed their secondary education with a minimum overall score of 60 to 65% or equivalent in their respective country's grading system.

English Language Proficiency:

  • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.0 with no individual component below 5.5.
  • TOEFL: A minimum score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in each component.
  • PTE: A minimum overall score of 59, with no individual score below 51.

Students must provide:

  • academic marksheets & transcripts
  • letters of recommendation
  • a personal statement - SOP
  • passport
  • other supporting documents as required by the university.
