Graduates of the BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering program at the University of South Wales have a wide array of career opportunities in various sectors of the construction industry.

Civil Engineer: Civil engineers are involved in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure projects such as buildings, bridges, roads, railways, and water systems. They work on projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are safe, sustainable, and meet regulatory standards. Civil engineers may specialize in areas such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, or hydraulic engineering.

Structural Engineer: Structural engineers focus on the design and analysis of the structural components of buildings and other structures to ensure their strength, stability, and durability. They use principles of physics and mathematics to calculate loads, stresses, and deflections, and select appropriate materials and construction methods. Structural engineers work on a wide range of projects, from skyscrapers and bridges to dams and stadiums.

Geotechnical Engineer: Geotechnical engineers study the behavior of soil and rock and their interaction with civil engineering structures. They assess site conditions, conduct soil tests and analyses, and design foundations, retaining walls, and earthworks to support buildings and infrastructure projects. Geotechnical engineers also investigate ground conditions for environmental and geological projects.

Transportation Engineer: Transportation engineers are responsible for designing and managing transportation systems, including roads, highways, railways, airports, and ports. They analyze traffic patterns, assess transportation needs, and develop solutions to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Transportation engineers may specialize in traffic engineering, public transportation planning, or transportation policy and management.

Water Resources Engineer: Water resources engineers focus on the sustainable management of water resources, including water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and environmental protection.
