Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Academic Qualifications: Students should have completed their secondary education with a minimum overall percentage of 60% or above in a relevant qualification equivalent to the UK's General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or A-levels.

English Language Proficiency:

• IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6, with no individual component score below 5.5.
• TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 80, with with no band less than 10.
• PTE: A minimum overall score of 61, with no individual score below 59.

Students must provide:

• academic marksheets & transcripts
• letters of recommendation
• a personal statement - SOP
• passport
• other supporting documents as required by the university.

The BSc (Hons) Midwifery program at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) prepares graduates for a fulfilling and dynamic career as a registered midwife. Upon completion of this program, graduates are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to pursue various career opportunities within the field of midwifery.  

1. Registered Midwife: Graduates of the BSc (Hons) Midwifery program are eligible to register as midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). They can work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, birthing centers, community clinics, and home birth services, providing comprehensive care to women throughout pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postnatal period.

2. Antenatal and Postnatal Care: Midwives can specialize in antenatal and postnatal care, providing education, support, and medical assessments to pregnant women and new mothers. They monitor fetal development, conduct routine screenings, offer advice on nutrition and exercise, and assist with breastfeeding and newborn care.

3. Labor and Delivery: Some midwives focus on labor and delivery care, supporting women during childbirth and ensuring a safe and positive birthing experience. They monitor labor progress, provide pain relief options, assist with deliveries, and intervene if complications arise.

4. Community Midwifery: Graduates can work as community midwives, delivering care to women in their homes or local communities. Community midwives provide continuity of care, conduct home visits, and support women who prefer to give birth outside of hospital settings.
