Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Academic Qualifications: Applicants should have successfully completed their secondary education with a minimum overall score of 60% or equivalent in their respective country's grading system.

English language proficiency:

• IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.0 or 6.5 with no individual component below 5.5.
• TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 78 with at least 17 in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.
• PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 64 with no individual score below 59.
• Some programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

Students must provide:

• academic marksheets & transcripts
• letters of recommendation
• a personal statement - SOP
• passport
• other supporting documents as required by the university.

It is important to note that meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission, as the university considers factors such as availability of places and competition for the program. Additionally, some courses may have higher entry requirements or additional selection criteria, such as interviews or portfolio submissions.

Graduates of the BA (Hons) Performance program at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) possess a diverse skill set and are well-equipped to pursue various career opportunities in the performing arts industry. With a solid foundation in acting, dance, music, and theatre production, as well as critical thinking and communication skills, graduates are prepared for careers both on and off the stage.

Actor/Performer: Many graduates choose to pursue careers as actors or performers in theatre, film, television, or live entertainment. They may audition for roles in plays, musicals, television shows, or movies, showcasing their talent and versatility in performing various characters and genres. Actors may work in regional theatres, touring productions, film studios, or as freelance performers, building their reputation and portfolio through consistent work and performances.

Dancer/Choreographer: Graduates with a background in dance may pursue careers as professional dancers or choreographers. They may join dance companies, perform in stage productions, music videos, or corporate events, or work as freelance dancers for various projects. Choreographers create original dance pieces, choreograph routines for performances or productions, and collaborate with directors, producers, and other artists to bring artistic visions to life.

Musician/Singer: Some graduates may pursue careers as musicians or singers, performing in bands, orchestras, choirs, or as solo artists. They may specialize in a particular musical genre such as classical, jazz, rock, pop, or musical theatre, depending on their interests and training. Musicians and singers may perform at concerts, festivals, weddings, clubs, or recording studios, and may also work as session musicians, backing vocalists, or music educators.

Theatre Director/Producer: Graduates with strong leadership and organizational skills may pursue careers as theatre directors or producers. They oversee the artistic and administrative aspects of theatrical productions, from casting and rehearsal coordination to budget management and marketing. Directors work closely with actors, designers, and technical staff to interpret scripts, develop staging concepts, and bring productions to fruition, while producers handle the financial and logistical aspects of theatre projects.

Arts Administrator/Manager: Some graduates may choose to work behind the scenes in arts administration or management roles. They may work for theatres, arts organizations, production companies, or cultural institutions, overseeing day-to-day operations, fundraising, marketing, and audience development initiatives. Arts administrators ensure the smooth running of arts projects and programs, facilitate collaborations, and advocate for the arts within their communities.

Educator/Teaching Artist: Graduates interested in education may pursue careers as educators or teaching artists, sharing their passion for the performing arts with others. They may work as drama teachers in schools, colleges, or community centers, delivering workshops, classes, and extracurricular activities. Teaching artists may also work for arts organizations, outreach programs, or youth theatres, using drama and performance as tools for personal development, social change, and community engagement.

Arts Journalist/Critic: Some graduates may explore careers in arts journalism or criticism, writing reviews, articles, or essays about performances, productions, or cultural events. They may work as freelance writers, contributing to newspapers, magazines, websites, or blogs, or as staff writers for arts publications or media outlets. Arts journalists and critics provide insightful commentary, analysis, and commentary on the performing arts, contributing to the broader discourse and appreciation of theatre, dance, music, and related disciplines.
