Graduates of the BSc (Hons) Product Design program from London South Bank University (LSBU) have access to a variety of exciting career opportunities in the field of product design and related industries. With its strong emphasis on creativity, innovation, and practical skills, LSBU prepares graduates for roles in product design, industrial design, design engineering, and more.

Product Designer: One of the primary career paths for graduates is becoming a product designer. Product designers are responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing innovative products that meet user needs and market demands. They work on projects across various industries, including consumer electronics, furniture, automotive, and fashion, collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring products from concept to market. Product designers use sketching, prototyping, CAD modeling, and user research techniques to create aesthetically pleasing and functional designs.

Industrial Designer: Graduates may also pursue careers as industrial designers, where they focus on designing products for mass production and commercialization. Industrial designers work closely with manufacturers, engineers, and marketers to develop products that are cost-effective, ergonomic, and environmentally sustainable. They consider factors such as materials, manufacturing processes, and market trends to create products that are both functional and aesthetically appealing. Industrial designers may work for design consultancies, manufacturing firms, or consumer brands.

Design Engineer: Another career option is becoming a design engineer, where graduates combine their design expertise with engineering principles to develop innovative products and systems. Design engineers use CAD software, simulation tools, and prototyping techniques to create detailed designs and technical specifications for products. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs meet technical requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations. Design engineers may work in industries such as aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, or medical devices.

UX/UI Designer: Graduates may choose to specialize in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, where they focus on optimizing the usability and accessibility of digital products and applications. UX/UI designers conduct user research, create wireframes and prototypes, and design intuitive interfaces that enhance the user experience. They work closely with software developers, product managers, and graphic designers to create seamless and engaging digital experiences. UX/UI designers may work for software companies, digital agencies, or technology startups.

Design Manager: For those interested in leadership roles, a career as a design manager may be appealing. Design managers oversee design projects, coordinate design teams, and ensure that design activities align with business goals and objectives. They collaborate with senior management, marketing teams, and external stakeholders to develop design strategies, manage budgets, and drive innovation. Design managers may work in large corporations, design agencies, or in-house design departments.

Entrepreneur: Graduates with an entrepreneurial spirit may choose to start their own design businesses or design startups. As entrepreneurs, they have the opportunity to create their own products, establish their brand identity, and bring their creative visions to life. Entrepreneurial designers may launch product lines, design studios, or online platforms to showcase and sell their designs to consumers. They leverage their design skills, business acumen, and networking abilities to build successful ventures in the competitive design industry.
