Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Animation program at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) provides students with comprehensive training and hands-on experience in the field of animation, preparing them for dynamic careers in the animation industry. Through projects spanning traditional 2D animation, 3D computer animation, stop-motion, motion graphics, and experimental techniques, students experiment with different styles and approaches to animation, fostering their creativity and innovation.

  2. Technical Proficiency: Students gain proficiency in industry-standard animation software and tools, learning to bring their artistic visions to life through animation. They develop skills in character animation, storytelling, visual effects, rigging, texturing, lighting, and rendering, mastering the technical aspects of animation production.

Students collaborate with peers from other disciplines, such as illustration, graphic design, and filmmaking, on multidisciplinary projects, gaining valuable teamwork and communication skills while creating cohesive and engaging animated content.

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Academic Qualifications:The minimum percentage required for undergraduate courses at UCA is average percentage of 60% in HSC.

English Language Proficiency: 

  • IELTS: The minimum required overall score is usually between 6.0, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.
  • PTE Academic: The minimum required overall score is 56.
  • TOEFL: The minimum required score is 80.

Students must provide:

  • academic marksheets & transcripts
  • letters of recommendation
  • a personal statement - SOP
  • passport
  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

  4. Visual Development Artist: Visual development artists, also known as concept artists, design the overall look and feel of animated projects. They create concept art, color schemes, and mood boards to establish the visual style and atmosphere of a film or game. Visual development artists collaborate closely with directors and art directors to ensure that the visual elements align with the project's creative vision.

  5. Motion Graphics Designer: Motion graphics designers specialize in creating animated graphics and visual effects for a variety of media, including film, television, websites, and mobile apps. They use animation software to design and animate text, logos, icons, and other visual elements, adding dynamic visual appeal to multimedia projects.

  6. VFX Artist: Visual effects (VFX) artists create digital effects and enhancements for live-action and animated films. They use specialized software to add computer-generated imagery (CGI), compositing, and other visual effects to scenes, seamlessly integrating virtual elements with live-action footage.

  7. Game Animator: Game animators work in the gaming industry, creating animations for video games and interactive media. They design and animate characters, objects, and environments, bringing game worlds to life and enhancing player experiences with fluid and engaging animations.

  8. Independent Filmmaker: Some animation graduates choose to work as independent filmmakers, producing their animated short films, web series, or independent projects. They may distribute their work online, submit it to film festivals, or seek funding for larger-scale productions.
