Program Overview

The MSc Accounting and Finance course at the University of Bristol is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in accounting or finance, or who wish to progress to a research degree. The programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance theory and practice, as well as the skills necessary to work in the industry. Students will also have the opportunity to study a range of topics in depth, including corporate finance, financial reporting, auditing and taxation.

The course is delivered by the University of Bristol's School of Accounting and Finance, which is internationally recognised for its research and teaching excellence. Students will benefit from the expertise of leading academics in the field, as well as the school's strong links with the accounting and finance industry.

The programme is one year full-time, or two years part-time, and consists of taught modules and a dissertation. Students will be required to undertake a significant amount of independent study, as well as group work and presentations. The course is suitable for both graduates with a degree in accounting or finance, as well as those with a degree in a related subject who wish to specialise in accounting and finance.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be well-prepared for a career in accounting or finance, or for further study at PhD level. The University of Bristol's MSc Accounting and Finance programme is accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants , which means that students will gain exemptions from certain ACCA exams upon completion of the course.

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 65% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 85, with at least 20 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, and 20 in Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 65 with no individual score below 60.
  • Some postgraduate programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.
