Program Overview

The MA International Relations and Security Studies program at the University of Bradford offers students an in-depth understanding of global politics, international relations, and security issues. This program provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of political theories, diplomatic strategies, and security challenges faced by nations in the contemporary world.   1. International Relations Theories: Students will explore various theoretical perspectives in international relations, including realism, liberalism, constructivism, and critical theories. Students will examine traditional security threats such as terrorism, conflict, and arms proliferation, as well as emerging non-traditional security issues like cybersecurity, climate change, and human rights.

  3. Diplomacy and Foreign Policy: Students will gain insights into the practice of diplomacy and the formulation of foreign policies. They will study the roles of international organizations, negotiation techniques, and the dynamics of diplomatic relations between states.

  4. Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding: This module explores theories and practices of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Students will learn about different conflict resolution approaches, including negotiation, mediation, and reconciliation. They will analyze case studies and explore the role of international organizations and peacekeeping missions.

  5. Global Governance and International Organizations: Students will examine the role of international organizations, such as the United Nations, in global governance. They will study the functions, structures, and decision-making processes of these organizations, and critically evaluate their effectiveness in addressing global challenges.

  6. Research Methods in International Relations: Students will develop research skills and learn qualitative and quantitative research methods applicable to the field of international relations. They will gain practical experience in conducting research, analyzing data, and writing research reports.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements:

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 50 to 60% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 80, with at least 17 in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 62 with no individual score below 51.

Students must provide:

  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.
