Program Overview

The University of Bristol offers a BSc in Accounting and Finance with a Professional Placement, a four-year degree program that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the finance industry. First year of the program is designed to provide students with an overview of the fundamental concepts of accounting and finance. Students will study topics such as financial accounting, management accounting, microeconomics, and macroeconomics.

Second year, students will delve deeper into the subject matter and will explore topics such as financial management, taxation, and corporate finance. 

Third year includes a one-year professional placement, where students can gain practical experience working in a finance-related field.

Fourth year, students will focus on advanced topics such as financial statement analysis, portfolio management, and financial derivatives.

The professional placement year is a key feature of the program, and provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a finance-related field. The university has strong relationships with a range of employers in the finance industry, including investment banks, accounting firms, and financial services companies. Students are supported throughout the placement process, with help in finding suitable placements, preparing CVs and cover letters, and developing interview skills. In addition to gaining practical experience, the placement year can also help students to develop key skills such as communication, team working, and problem solving.

  • Applicants should have successfully completed their secondary education with a minimum overall score of 85% or equivalent in their respective country's grading system.
  • English language proficiency is essential, and students are required to provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual component below 6.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 88, with at least 22 in Listening, 24 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, and 20 in Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 66 with no individual score below 60.
  • Some programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.
