Entry Requirements for Postgraduate Programs

Application Fees : US$ 60

Academic Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution is required for admission to postgraduate programs at UCO.
• The minimum academic requirement is a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, which is equivalent to 60% or above.

English Language Proficiency Requirements:

• IELTS (International English Language Testing System): An overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.
• TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language, Internet-Based Test): A minimum overall score of 79.
• PTE (Pearson Test of English): A minimum score of 53.

5. Athletic Scholarships: International students with exceptional athletic abilities may be eligible for athletic scholarships if they participate in UCO's NCAA Division II sports programs.

6. Departmental Scholarships: Various academic departments at UCO offer scholarships to students majoring in specific fields. These scholarships are often based on academic performance, major, or other criteria.

7. UCO Foundation Scholarships: The UCO Foundation administers a wide range of scholarships funded by donors and organizations. These scholarships cover various academic disciplines and criteria.

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education program at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is designed to equip educators with advanced knowledge and skills to meet the diverse needs of students with exceptionalities. 1. Special Education Teacher: Graduates are well-prepared to take on roles as special education teachers in various educational settings, including public and private schools. They work with students with diverse learning needs, designing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) to support academic and social success.

2. Inclusion Specialist: With a focus on inclusive education, graduates may choose to work as inclusion specialists. In this role, they collaborate with general education teachers to create inclusive classrooms that accommodate the needs of students with disabilities while promoting a supportive learning environment for all students.

3. Behavior Intervention Specialist: Some graduates may specialize in behavior intervention, working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors. They use evidence-based strategies to assess, address, and manage behavioral challenges, creating positive and effective learning environments.

4. Autism Specialist: Given the increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorders, graduates may pursue careers as autism specialists. They work with individuals on the autism spectrum, providing targeted interventions, developing social skills programs, and collaborating with families and other professionals.

5. Educational Diagnostician: Graduates may choose to become educational diagnosticians, playing a crucial role in assessing and identifying learning disabilities and developmental delays. They collaborate with educators and parents to develop appropriate strategies and interventions.

6. Transition Specialist: Some professionals opt to specialize in transition services, helping students with disabilities transition from school to post-school activities, such as higher education, vocational training, or employment. They assist in developing transition plans to facilitate a smooth and successful transition for students.

7. Special Education Coordinator or Supervisor: Graduates may advance into administrative roles, such as special education coordinator or supervisor. In these positions, they provide leadership, oversee program development, and collaborate with school administrators to ensure the effective implementation of special education services.

8. Advocate for Individuals with Disabilities: Some graduates become advocates, working with organizations that support individuals with disabilities. They may engage in policy advocacy, community outreach, and educational initiatives to promote inclusivity and equality.

9. Curriculum Developer: With expertise in adapting and modifying curriculum to meet diverse learning needs, graduates may pursue roles as curriculum developers. They work to create curriculum materials that are accessible and effective for students with various abilities.

10. Consultant in Special Education: Graduates may choose to work as consultants, providing expertise to schools, districts, or educational organizations. They offer guidance on best practices in special education, professional development, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

11. Assistive Technology Specialist: Given the importance of technology in supporting students with disabilities, graduates may specialize in assistive technology. They help identify and implement technology tools that enhance learning and communication for students with special needs.

12. Nonprofit Organizations: Graduates may contribute to the work of nonprofit organizations focused on supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. They may be involved in program development, advocacy, and community outreach.
