MSc RF and Microwave Engineering

Guilford - UK

INTAKE: September

Program Overview

The MSc RF and Microwave Engineering program at the University of Surrey is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the design, analysis, and application of RF (Radio Frequency) and microwave systems. The program covers a wide range of topics, including RF circuit design, antenna design, and electromagnetic field theory.

  1. RF Circuit Design: The program focuses on the design and analysis of RF circuits and systems. Students learn about the principles of RF circuit design, including passive and active components, transmission lines, and amplifier design. They gain hands-on experience in using industry-standard software tools for RF circuit simulation and optimization.

  2. Microwave Engineering: The program delves into the theory and practice of microwave engineering. Students explore the design and analysis of microwave components and systems, such as waveguides, filters, oscillators, and mixers. They also learn about microwave measurement techniques and the characterization of microwave devices.

  3. Antenna Design: The program covers the principles and techniques of antenna design for RF and microwave applications. Students gain insights into different antenna types, such as patch antennas, horn antennas, and array antennas. They learn how to design and optimize antennas for specific performance requirements, such as high gain, wide bandwidth, and low sidelobe levels.

  4. Electromagnetic Field Theory: The program provides a solid foundation in electromagnetic field theory, which is essential for understanding the behavior of RF and microwave systems. Students study Maxwell's equations, wave propagation, and electromagnetic waveguides. They also learn about numerical methods for solving electromagnetic field problems.

  5. Industry-Relevant Projects and Facilities: The University of Surrey emphasizes practical learning and industry engagement in the MSc RF and Microwave Engineering program. Students have the opportunity to work on industry-sponsored projects, applying their knowledge to real-world challenges and gaining valuable experience. They also have access to well-equipped laboratories and measurement facilities for RF and microwave engineering.
