Program Overview

The MEng Chemical and Petroleum Engineering program at the University of Surrey is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in the fields of chemical engineering and petroleum engineering.   2. Chemical Engineering Fundamentals: The program covers essential topics in chemical engineering, such as chemical reactions, mass and energy balances, process design, and separation techniques. Students learn to analyze and optimize chemical processes, considering factors such as reaction kinetics, heat transfer, and fluid flow.

  3. Petroleum Engineering: The program introduces students to the key concepts and techniques used in the exploration, production, and refining of petroleum resources. Students learn about reservoir characterization, well drilling, production optimization, and enhanced oil recovery methods. They also gain insights into petroleum economics and environmental considerations in the industry.

  4. Process Control and Safety: The program emphasizes the importance of process control and safety in chemical and petroleum engineering. Students learn about control systems, instrumentation, and process optimization techniques. They also study safety protocols, risk assessment, and hazard management in industrial settings.

  5. Sustainable Energy and Environmental Considerations: The program addresses the growing importance of sustainable energy and environmental considerations in the field of chemical and petroleum engineering. Students explore alternative energy sources, carbon capture and storage, and environmental impact assessment. They learn to integrate sustainable practices into engineering design and operations.

  6. Engineering Design Projects: The program includes hands-on engineering design projects where students apply their knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. Postgraduate Entry Requirements:

  • Applicants should have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum overall score of 60 to 65% or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency is required, and applicants must provide evidence of their English language skills through an approved language test.
    • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 7.0with no individual component below 6.5.
    • TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 95, with at least 23 in Listening, 23 in Reading, 22 in Speaking, and 26 in Writing.
    • PTE Academic: A minimum overall score of 65 with no individual score below 58.
  • Some postgraduate programs may have specific subject prerequisites or additional requirements.

  • other supporting documents as required by the university.

Work experience: Some postgraduate courses may require relevant work experience in the field.
